Our Story
Nēnōkāsīns is the Saulteaux word for Hummingbird. It carries the teaching that each of us has a responsibility to bring our own drop of water to the fire—that meaningful change begins when we choose to act, serve, and contribute.
For our founder, this teaching is deeply personal. The company is named in honour of his late father, Gilbert Kewistep, whose Indigenous name was Nēnōkāsīns (Hummingbird).
Throughout his life, Gilbert embodied the values that name represents through his service to family, community, and Nation. His leadership, humility, and commitment to helping others continue to inspire the work we do today.
Nenokasins Advisory was founded to honour Gilbert's legacy and carry that teaching forward. We partner with Indigenous governments, organizations, and public institutions to strengthen governance, advance reconciliation, and create meaningful, lasting impact through Indigenous knowledge, evidence-based practice, and practical implementation.
